At least 10 students and four teachers of Dhaka University (DU) were injured in an attack by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over a football match at DU playground Tuesday.Of the injured, Islamic History Department teachers Md Siddiqur Rahman, AKM Iftekharul Islam, Mahmudur Rahman, Buddhist and Pali Studies Department teacher Biman Chandra Barua, Islamic History Department students Russel, Sujan, Shahidul and Nirob, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and DU medical centre.Sources said there was a football match between the departments of Islamic History and Buddhist and Pali Studies on the DU playground in the afternoon.Being defeated in the match by 3-0 goals, Buddhist and Pali Studies Department student and DU Salimullah Hall unit BCL general secretary Anwar Hossain Anu had an altercation with the winners.At one stage, the BCL activist summoned his supporters from the hall and attacked the teachers and students of Islamic History Department with hockey sticks, iron rods and chapatis, leaving at least 15 injured.When contacted, DU Proctor KM Saiful Islam Khan refused to make any comment about the BCL attack on teachers and students, saying that he would talk about the matter later.
