I read in Class VII in Kalmakanda High School in 1959. Mr M Hafizur Rahman , a beautiful bachelor of Atpara, was our Headmaster staying at the rented boarding house at Kalmakanda Bazar wherein I stayed for a few months. I remember having enjoyed there a dinner with a delicious fish curry made out of a very big, rare and tasty Mashul/Mohashul Fish. Being a lodging master, duly arranged in all cases by my life-patron and grandfather Janab Kh Ashabuddin, I also stayed in different villages like -- Chotrongpur, Chilahala and Munshipur. I remember with gratitude for their kind and generous help extended towards pursuit of my education.
During my stay at Kalmakanda,I used to awoke from the sleep early in the morning listening to the peculiar bitting sound on the Nakara came from the Goyna Boat anchored at Kalmakanda Ferry Ghat. The sound was used to make the prospective passengers alert and call for boarding the Goyna prior to leaving the ghat for the destination. This non-engined Goyna was mainly used to transport the passengers in between Thakurakona and Kalmakanda.I personally enjoyed the journey by Goyna a good number of occasions. The road transport system has already replaced the age-old slow water-bound Goyna system.- Khandaker Shamsul Huda
